Art by Abstract Contemporary Oklahoma Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy

"Break Free" 18"x24"x1.5" acrylic
As an artist it's an intimate expression to put yourself in your work, it's a story of who you are, who you strive to be, your secrets, your longing, your desires. It's bravery to show all these elements of yourself to the world knowing not everyone can decipher what they see, or relate to the emotions and meaning emanating from your artwork.
To have a positive connection made by another person to our art gives credence, substance and validation to what you've done, to have someone be callous and critique negatively out of indifference, narrow minded views, or jealousy is probably one of the bigger challenges of being an artist. They say have a thick skin, realize there are far more positives than negatives; it can be tough to wear that armor when what you've opened yourself from the soul for all to see! So to have that happen and struggle with yourself over what to validate in your heart, mind and soul- the good- or allow the bad to win, takes work to break free of the dead weight. Be you, be true, be honest and the light will return. Just break free............ and be free........

I am proud to announce that "Break Free" will be on display at the International Museum of Art El Paso starting August 3rd when there will be the opening reception from 2- 4:30PM for the all equine show The Horse; Spirit, Art, and Soul. The Museum is taking inquires for sales on artwork starting on August 3rd. The show runs until September 28th.
