I am in LOVE with the palomino horse coat color, and the darker and richer the gold, the more I like it. I have a lovely and very sweet paso fino mare I rescued who is wheaten color in winter, but when she sheds out for summer, he coat dapples and deepens considerably to almost being chocolate. This painting was inspired by my coffee one morning, the creamer in it gave it this lovely golden caramel color, and I painted this as a golden palomino paso fino stallion. And I called it "Coffee with Creme". In horse coat color language, the gene that makes the horse golden colored is the creme gene. So there is my fun little word twist to the paintings title. I love doing that too! Painted with acrylic on a standard unframed 24"x20" canvas.

© "Budweiser"

When I went to paint this gelding named Budweiser due to his flashy chrome (white) markings, I had every intention of painting him in my usual way, with lines to express the personality and character of my equine subjects, but this fellow had other ideas. The few starts on canvas of him just weren't right, the energy and flow was lacking. So I stepped back and studied him opening my mind, and there it was- this heart horse was just wanting to be real, there, pure and simple for his owner. The warm oranges emanate the happy, optimistic, bright and honest character of Budweiser, and his gentle yet engaging eyes seem to flow like warm butter into all the cracks in your being. He's beseeching you to just look, connect, and stay in his world.

My usual approach just wasn't the right path to take in this instance, and I had to trust that the feelings I was getting were the way to go. It's not always comfortable to go against the grain of your tried and true way of doing things, but sometimes that difficulty in changing direction is meant to open new options for better results.

© "Don't Break my H'art"

I found these small heart shaped canvases at my favorite art supply store, and I immediately knew I would enjoy painting little equines on them. They are made of very stiff pressed cardboard that is about 1/8th inch thick and have canvas on both sides. They are within a 5 1/2" square measurement in size flat. I create these with my line style in acrylics. I call them my Horse H'art Series, and I try to incorporate the word h'art in the titles, sometimes as it is spelled as part of a word, sometimes used phonetically. In the coming weeks as we get closer to Christmas I will be starting to have giveaways for my fans and collectors, and there will be some H'arts in the mix. © "Once Again"

I have been sharing with you the progression of the WIP painting "Once Again", and I finally have the finished painting to share with you. Unlike my flat lines paintings, the lines in this one are dimensional, and there is added acrylic based texture mediums added for further depth. Depending on how this painting is lit, will give it a slight difference in how it looks. It's slight, but interesting. I had so enjoyed doing this technique on another painting that I've definitely decided that this approach will be a part of my creations. "Once Again" has been painted with acrylics on a 16"x20"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas. It is available. Contact me for more info.

WIP of © "Once Again"

I'm continuing to build on the WIP painting. This is day five of the acrylic painting Once Again. I continued working on the background, darkening the horses head and the leaping horse in the upper right. I blocked in the main horses mane.

WIP of © "Once Again"

Time to revisit my continuation of the WIP painting. This is day four of the acrylic painting Once Again. I moved from working on the front horse to the background, where I added a horses head and form suggesting a leaping horse in the upper right. I'm particularly pleased with the lower horses turquoise eye.

WIP of © "Once Again"

Day three in the continuation of the acrylic painting Once Again. I laid in some background and deeper shadows. I have always liked warm browns coupled with turquoise blues.

WIP of © "Once Again"
I have had such a positive response to the painting titled encore from my rhythm and hooves series which is great. I have felt an urge to do more and this reaction just fuels my creative fire even more, and I have 2 wip with this technique started. This one will be shown as a wip with several photographs to allow you to see it grow and gain life. I think I'll be calling it "Once Again". I hope you enjoy the process. It's being done with acrylics on a 16"x20"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas, and will be available for sale once completed.

© "Swing"
This 11"x14"x1.5" acrylic gallery wrap features a horses head done in my line style, using warm ocher and sienna with reds. I just love those golden colored horses with their flaxen mane and tails, or white. Swing got it's name from how the masking formed a couple lines that looked like a swing set seat soaring up into the air. If you'd like to give Swing a home, let me know, he's offered at $125.00.
