This painting was created from reference photos taken while attending a cattle round-up. The cowboys were bringing the cattle in for their bi-annual shots, worming and that oily stuff for flies. It was a long hot day but well worth it.

Heading'em Home
This western painting was done when the fog is just above the ground and streaks of it are going across the trees, usually early morning. I wanted to create a sence of stillness and quiet in the scene. The only sounds you hear are the plodding on the horse and the cows. The birds aren't even chirping yet. The cows got out of their pasture and the cowboy set out early to look for them and bring them back. The fog is slowly lifting. There seems to be a chill in the air.

Horses at Jones' Camp, small art, plein air watercolor, equine art by Louisiana artist Linda T. Snider Ward
A small plein air watercolor of horses near the Jones' Camp. There were at least twenty horses who all had to come up to me to see what I was doing. Once their curiosity was satisfied, they all got down to the business of grazing. It was a lot of fun and challenging trying to capture them on paper, as they moved here and there.

A Spirited Workout
This painting was created from photos and sketches made from a racetrack near where I live. Some of those horses are very lively and high spirited. I thought the black horses color and body movements contrasted very well with the white horse and rider. An artist friend owns some racehorses and it gives us an opportunity to watch the beautiful horses in action. Check out more of my western art at http://www.ArtworkbyAnn.com

The Golden Boys-Belgains
These big Belgian horses were painted from photos I took during late spring. The man that owned the horses was demonstrating how well they handled for a potential buyer. For such big horses they are very docile and even tempered. My dad owned Percherons and was very proud of them. He would be asked to use them for the Christmas parades in our home town. Preparation
This painting was done from the Montana area. We, my husband and I, were on vacation a few years back and came upon some folks going on a trail ride. Western art is one of my favorite things to paint and I could not miss the opportunity to get some photos of all the activity. This young lady is the guide for the group. I think I captured how the light reflects up into her face even though she is looking down. For more western art visit my website at http://www.ArtworkbyAnn.com

A Pause That Refreshes by Artists Of Texas Contemporary Paintings, Ann Hoffpauir
It has been a long while since I have posted on Western Art International blog. This painting is in oil, 36x18 canvas panel. I wanted a strong design and thought doing only the horses heads with each in a slightly different pose would be what I was looking for. Two are drinking but the other one notices something out of our vision, with it's ears perked knowing something is on the other side of the water, hmmm???http:www.ArtworkbyAnn.com
