This pair of draft horses, Percherons, were owned by my Dad. He loved horses and owned them from a very early age. Evently he bought these draft horses. These huge horses are very gentle and very easy to work with. Dad was asked several times to use them to participate in our towns Christmas parade. I always thought they are stunning. This painting is done in Conte' Crayon.

Hay Days
During the early summer hay is cut and baled. Here in southeast Texas they can get two cuttings off a good pasture in summer. My dad used to bale hay with a hay rake like this one. My dad loved being out with the horses doing things on the farm. So I painted him on the hay rake driving the Belgian horses. I miss my dad. The draft horses are easier than mules, more even tempered I think. There are the cattle egrets that come in by the dozens to catch and eat the insects that get stirred up during cutting and the baling. http://www.ArtworkbyAnn.com

The Golden Boys-Belgains
These big Belgian horses were painted from photos I took during late spring. The man that owned the horses was demonstrating how well they handled for a potential buyer. For such big horses they are very docile and even tempered. My dad owned Percherons and was very proud of them. He would be asked to use them for the Christmas parades in our home town.
