© "Native Rain Flyer"
I painted this when Oklahoma was in severe drought and horrid unrelenting heat, day after day of over 100 degrees. I had tried all the usual to get some rain, laundry, washing the truck and leaving the window open, dancing out in the yard- nothing worked. So I took it upon myself to paint my plea, a painted paso fino with symbols I felt spoke of rain, and a Phoenix bird to transform the earth from dry to wet by taking the message of need to the heavens from whence rain falls. Amazingly it WORKED! It sold right away, and it was a continued miracle because the Oklahoman who bought it also got rain. Now we are in desperate need of rain here where we live. So dry, and things are dying. Hope it works again soon! "Native Rain Flyer" is done with acrylics. Sold.

© "Sailors Delight"

This golden palomino painting makes me think of my father since he was in the navy, and taught me as a child the rhyme about red sky at night, sailors delight, red sky in the morning, sailors take warning. I painted this deep gold palomino in the rich red light of the evenings setting sun, the "Sailors Delight". This acrylic 20"x 16" is gorgeously set off framed in lovely bronzed stars just past the thin white stack frame and finished off on with the deep red wood patterned outer frame. This golden paso fino painting is available through my home studio for $375.00 plus shipping.

Commissioned portrait of a beloved Peruvian paso gelding. These regal and proud horses are a relative of the paso fino, they are smooth gaited but move a little differently. They come from Peru.

©"LARGO!"
The fastest and most ground covering gait that the paso fino horse executes in the largo. If you like the wind in your face- this speed will do that for you and all the while with a smooth gait. It is a thrill to ride this speed. This was a snapshot capture of one beloved paso fino moving in perfect gait in the largo speed. Can you feel the wind in your hair? I sure do! This portrait is sold.

I call this one Cindy on her Horse
Here's one of my first commissions of a ridden paso fino. I will say right up front people are not my forte- but this woman rider horse portrait combo result not only pleased me, but made the consignor happy and the recipient who was given the painting as a gift happy. I have done very few human portraits, I find my voice is much louder and far more satisfactory when spoken through the horse. But I will admit, her smile in this painting is what we paso fino owners refer to as the "paso fino smile". Yeah, the ride is THAT good. Smoooooth............

© "White Chocolate" sold
Here's another in the more abstract style with the thickened paint applied then moved around some. I was very pleased with the way this one turned out, so dynamic, so dramatic. I absolutely LOVE white chocolate but don't eat it anymore since it's really not at all good for the body and system, but I remember how it tastes, and it's creamy smoothness. I love milk chocolate too, but only eat dark chocolate now for it's healthy benefits. So with this painting it was more a feast for the eyes, not the lips. This is sold.

I did this painting some time ago- it was more a playful, experimental exercise that I felt good about when done. I have created a few in this particular style, but not for awhile. Maybe I should give it another try since I've been feeling an urge to do something different than my line style lately. Maybe after I finish up the works for my solo show coming up September 5th. That has most of my focus right now.

© "Oklahoma Grass Fire"
It's so very hot here where I am in central Oklahoma, the days are hovering just at or near 100 degrees during the mid day. It stays warm all through the night. We are so dry, no rain has fallen here in awhile. I see the grass dying and worry sometimes about the grass fires that can spark up in these kind of conditions. A few years ago when the heat and drought were relentless, there were terrible fires, homes and farms destroyed. It was frightening. I painted "Oklahoma Grass Fire" as a way to express my feelings. In the meantime, I will pray for rain. Could be here if we're lucky mid week.

© "24 Carrot"
This is one of my favorites that I've done using our paso fino stallion Adonis as the inspiration. This magnificant specimen has been a muse for my artwork and is featured in one way or another in many of my works. This was auctioned off at my Sweet Valentine solo show at the Sweet Earth Studio in Shawnee, ok with the proceeds going to the Shawnee Historical Building fund. I'm glad it's local, all I need to do is ask the collector if I could see it and enjoy it in person again. It has gold bronzing powder in it that the camera doesn't pick up very well that accents it gorgeously.

© "Goldie's Pain"
Goldie was a gorgeous palomino dun paso fino mare I used to own. She amazed me with her self confidence, steady and sturdy personality, and giving heart. She was a natural leader and did her job with a quiet yet strong presence that just a look or a twist of the ear would speak volumes, she used as little of her power to rule as possible. She had a benevolent position. I envisioned her as a tough and hard working cowgirl who'd wear jeans, T's and boots with a bandana around her neck. When she had a bought with founder, a painful hoof issue, she tried to stay strong but it was obvious she hurt. It was a long road to recovery, but one that she did with bravery and an accepting manner. I was so distraught seeing her pain I painted what I felt. "Goldie's Pain", is an emotionally charged acrylic that shows the circumstance in stance and expression, but exudes strength even still. This 20"x16" on standard canvas is for sale.

© "Wintertime (the Sleigh Horse)" SOLD
Yesterday I joined in the fun and worthy cause of the ALS ice water bucket challenge. It was invigorating and refreshing actually on such a hot day as we had in Oklahoma- fact is these are the dog days of August, it's going to be hot, hot, hot for days to come. So in keeping with a cool idea, ice bucket/cold and chilly, I am sharing an early and first of a series, the Seasonal series, a frosty cold acrylic named "Wintertime (the Sleigh horse)". This painting stems from a memory of a sleigh ride in deep, very cold winter in Quebec, Canada at a family dairy farm. It was bitter cold, and snowing, biggest flakes I'd ever seen. Enjoy, and I hope this cools you if you are in a hot climate area like I am!

© "Blooming Everywhere" SOLD
Though I like to work with earth colors a bit more in the last year or so, the bright, vibrant colors still have such an appeal to me, and with the rainbow of colors in this equine painting, I was reminded of a garden in full bloom with a profuse array of gorgeous colors rioting for attention. I used the Liquidtex soft body paints for this, those colors are so wonderfully saturated. "Blooming Everywhere" sold immediately after it's public release.

part of "Lullaby" painting
While working on my upcoming solo show September 5th at the Sweet Earth Studio in Shawnee, Oklahoma, I'm going to show little sections of paintings- spoilers in a sense, until the time the show opens when I'll reveal the set as a whole and complete.
The name of the show is "Rhythm and Hooves" with a theme of music and dance. One of the quieter and more relaxing pieces takes us to a grassy field with dainty purple flowers where a foal sleeps. This snippet is from the acrylic painting "Lullaby". I enjoyed this one especially for the calm feeling I felt while working on it. I absorbed and released the quiet, centered and at peace emotions while working on this little baby. All cares evaporate when you see this little ones innocence.

© "Tina Marie de Vez"
Yesterday was a pretty hot and humid day in Oklahoma, the kind of day that if you were going to be outside, swimming would be a great way to beat the heat. I've always wanted to go swimming with a horse, the opportunity hasn't presented itself yet, maybe someday. That idea made me think of a commission portrait I did of a lovely palomino paso fino mare splashing around in water. The acrylic painting "Tina Marie de Vez" resides in Florida, where the water looks so inviting to swim!

Original Colorado Landscape Painting With Horse, Rider Sheep and Dog , "High Country" by Painter of the American West Nancee Jean Busse

I love painting the Meeker Sheepdog Trials. At the far end of the competition field the sheep wranglers release the sheep at the beginning of each run. That’s what this painting depicts. I love the colors of northern Colorado in autumn; brilliant sun on yellow fields, blue mountains, clear skies… Colorado at it’s most rare and beautiful!

© "Deep in it" sold
Seems like the world is a troubled place anymore, whether you look at it in a micro or macrocosm. There are days when I can brush it off and forge on, but there are days, and sometimes longer, that the weight seems harder to handle. Everywhere you look, there's something happening that causes strife and stress. So where do you go, what do you do to escape the madness? I have found my release in my art. It's not always the perfect panacea, but it's a world I create, that I have somewhat a measure of control over. Been a rough stretch of time for me lately, and what I see and know that's coming concerns me- so I have paint, brushes and canvases lined up as my fighting front line. I've chosen "Deep in it" for today, full of the depths and eddy's that can hide rip tides. Got to be strong to not be swept away.

© "Pas de Deux"
Here's another one from early in the development of my line style, I studied different colors and types of marble for inspiration with several in this set, and with this one I wanted the contrast of light and dark lines. Whereas one of the paintings painted resembling marble colors was named after the type of marble, I named this one after a dance, the pas de deux, a dance of two. This acrylic canvas has been sold.

I'm wearing a t-shirt given to me for an equine art festival that was held in Upstate NY this summer. I would have been able to participate if I'd been there in person, sure wish I'd gone since another trip I'd planned on since last year didn't pan out. I would have been able to show some of my art and see family, a huge bonus! I have been a supporter of this venture since I heard of it, and hope to be able to join in next year in person, but possibly even if I can't go. I'm holding the acrylic painting "Duet" in my "Rhythm and Hooves" theme solo show coming up September 5th at the Sweet Earth Studio Mingle Gallery in Shawnee, OK. Behind me are two of my paso fino's, Pocket and Karma.

 © "Live Again"
My heart is broken on hearing the news of Robin Williams death. From what responses I've read, his passing will have a deep impact on the nation, and I can't imagine the pain his family must feel if we, who only knew him from what we saw of his work, have tears in our eyes and profound sadness to have lost such a talented and brilliant actor and comedian. I painted this canvas as a memorial to my young niece who passed unexpectedly earlier this year like Robin did yesterday, so I want to share it again for expressing my pain of loss. I'm sorry you felt you had nowhere to turn Mr. Williams, may God take your soul and keep you safe from what torment your spirit suffered. We will miss you Robin- so very much........

I am wanting to say goodbye to the sticky, humid overly hot weather, but that means we would soon be in the grips of cold, windy, wet icy weather. Going to bide my time and just get through it. As long as the electricity is on to run the AC, I will be painting while stuck inside until the temperatures cool in the later evening. So please enjoy my painting "Absolute Zero" with it's chilly theme to maybe help with the oppressive heat, either way we're stuck with this weather since it is the dog days of August.

© "A Pair of Scissors"
Though I am predominately an equine artist, on occasion I veer off and painting something different. I had gone to a western art show in Oklahoma City and saw a lovely scissortail sculpture, I was fascinated by it, and it made me pay more attention to our state bird since we have them at our acreage. I observed they had really lovely feather colors and great flying dynamics. My resulting painting came out very energetic, and it earned a 1st place and Best of Show when exhibited. This lovely vibrant painting is for sale. Acrylic on gallery wrap- 12"x36"x1.5"

© "I Got Hosed at the Carnaval"
Several years back I'd host P2P (photo to painting) contests, they were a lot of fun and a great way to have such a wide array of wonderful photos to choose from to create an interesting themed painting. A repeat idea, paso fino's and water, gave me a great selection to contemplate, but the one of a paso fino stallion being sprayed by a horse and so obviously enjoying it was my pick. The stallions name is in part Carnaval. I named this acrylic "I Got Hosed at the Carnaval".  It has sold.

It's summer, and it's hot out here in Oklahoma, perfect for swimming, which I do daily if possible in my above ground pool. I have a selection of suits to choose from, but my favorite is a lovely mix of turquoise, magenta purple, ocher, white and blue. The colors inspired me to paint using that palette, and the result was this soothing acrylic with a name that is suggestive of the origin of my inspiration. This painting sold and now resides overseas in New Zealand.

Though we are still in the first week of August, I'm already thinking about the soon to be here state fair. So far every year I've entered artwork to be judged and displayed for the 10 days the fair is open to the public. My mouth is already watering thinking about the huge hot, chewy, sticky delicious cinnamon buns. I have entered painted clothing I've done, and I think this year I will enter this intense copper and golden brown horse head painted on a casual dress jacket. As with all the metallic paints, the camera just doesn't capture the metallic glistening and neither does it capture the brilliance of the real Swarovski lead crystal accents I painstakingly glue on one by one. I love showing them off and wearing the items I paint, I will miss being able to wear it while on display!

© "Seeking the Son"
In this horses and flowers series painting I incorporated the horses mane as part of the powerful striking leaves of this huge sunflower, and the symbolism reflects not only the flowers largesse as the sun, but the lifting up of the horse shows also the desire to rise up to the sun, and as an ascendant into heaven to seek the Son. Done in Liquitex soft body paints, which I find are very rich and saturated. This 20"x16"x1.5" gallery wrap is sold.

Original Colorado Landscape Painting "October Afternoon At The Redlands" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

This view of the Colorado National Monument is from old Hwy 340 from Grand Junction to Fruita, Colorado. Three years ago, this painting was juried into an art show in Fort Collins, Colorado. It was a well-respected show; one that requires participating artists to pay a “handler” to ensure that their paintings were delivered from the shipping facility to show, back again, and then shipped back to the artists. When my painting never came home to me, I inquired and found that it had been lost. No tracking number existed and no one was willing to take responsibility. I was mad, sad, and all that other stuff, but let it go and moved on. Two years later, on Christmas Eve day, the painting showed up at my front door, in it’s original shipping box! So, it’s home now, hanging in my studio, wishing for a new home…

While out walking the dogs yesterday evening I had a firefly come by really close and it kept circling me, flashing its light signalling for a mate. Founded September 16, 2010 by USA Equine Artist, Deborah Flood, The International Equine Artists was formed for artists who enjoy creating the horse in art. The group started out as a handful of equine artists from the USA, Canada and Australia, who wanted a place to network, share, and have an online community and professional presence. The Organization is based in the USA, but to accommodate those two other Countries, "International" was added to the Business Name. As the group became more popular, more artists from many different Countries around the globe requested to join. The membership has blossomed into a wonderfully diverse group of artists.

Art by Abstract Contemporary Oklahoma Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy

In an effort to kick start my creative flow after the really tiring past week I had I did a rare, VERY rare pencil sketch for one of my "Rhythm and Hooves" show paintings. I usually just go for it directly onto the canvas with what I see in my mind, but this time I wanted to map out my composition and it's flare in an effort to unlock the creative flow. Look for the painting titled "Flamenco". This will likely be the biggest of the grouping at 24"x18" on gallery wrap canvas. I have it basically laid out on the canvas and I'm feeling optimistic. If I can remember to, I'll get some in progress photos- often once I start painting I go "in the zone" and don't come up for air until many hours later.

© "Golden Juan"
Yesterday was a trying day with an over and over repeat of chasing off neighbors loose horses from our roadside fence line where our horses could interact with them, and not on friendly terms. Lots of striking out, squealing, kicking, nipping- not a good scene. After unsuccessfully keeping them away time after time, trying to catch and corral ours until the loose ones were put up properly wasn't easy, there were some wild eyed horses all wound up over this.
All's quiet now, I just hope we don't see those loose horses again. But seeing the riled up expressions in the horses eyes made me think of this small acrylic- one I called "Golden Juan". It is for sale.
